Fund Raising & Philanthropy – A Class Discussion

Grant Writing

I was struggling for a topic for this week’s blog and saw a lot of people posted about grant writing. Most of these blogs discussed how tedious it was to write a grant. Yes, it did involve a lot of specifics, IRS forms, budget information, board member information, etc., but it was also interesting to me. I didn’t think it was that difficult. Perhaps that was because we worked as a group. It didn’t seem like we had to put in a lot of time. I suppose if the other four people didn’t help with the grant, it would have been a lot more stressful. I realize the importance of grants for non-profit organizations now. However, I would definitely never want to write one on my own.

  2. Consider the man power and hours needed to apply and then follow through with all the reporting compared to such capital raising activities in business such as securing a loan or having an IPO. The system of raising capital in the nonprofit world needs a major overhaul.
